Local directories, branch reviews, and chat search

This is a roundup of the features, enhancements, and bug fixes we shipped in September.

Code Review: whole branches, in-place edits, file tree

Three updates to Code Review in Tidewave IDE:

  • Review a whole branch or pull request. Before, Code Review could only compare your changes with the latest commit. Now you can also compare your changes with another branch, such as main, to review all the commits on your branch. Or use it to review someone else's pull request. Just click Review branch in the branch menu and choose the branch you want to compare with.
  • Edit files in the diff. Make quick changes directly in the review tab, without opening your editor.
  • File tree. See the changed files in a tree next to the diff. This helps you see how much you've reviewed so far and what's left to review.

Read the Code Review docs.

Local directories in Tidewave IDE

Tidewave was made for agentic work on web apps. But once you get used to it, you might want to use it for other types of projects, and now you can.

Tidewave IDE can now open a local directory, not only a running web app.

To try it, create a new space and pick Local directory.

Search your chat history

Click the Chat History button to search all your past chats and design canvases by text.

Chats now also use the titles your agent gives them, so you can more easily identify what each chat was about.

Other improvements

  • If your app is not running, Tidewave shows a Start application button. It opens a terminal with your framework's dev command ready to run (for example, mix phx.server or bin/rails server)
  • Reference whole directories with @, not only files
  • Long pastes (more than 10 lines) become attachments, so your prompt stays readable
